Meet Our Founder
With over 20 years’ experience in leadership, coaching and training, Michael brings both professional expertise and lived experience to his work.
The journey to founding Willful Steps began at home. When Michael’s second child was diagnosed with ADHD, he found himself reflecting deeply on his parenting and the impact of everyday choices. This eye-opening experience led to a personal revelation: Michael himself had been living with undiagnosed ADHD.
Realising just how easy it is for ADHD to go unnoticed and unsupported, he felt compelled to change the narrative, not just for his own family, but for others navigating similar paths.
Michael’s core belief is that “Every Brain Belongs.” He is driven by the philosophy that when we know better, we can do better, and that real change must start with compassion. His mission is to provide practical support and education for neurodivergent individuals and those around them, so that everyone in their lives can thrive.
Outside of work, Michael is a proud dad to three energetic boys (21, 8, and 4). When he’s not working or helping his wife Monique wrangle the kids, you’ll find him cooking up a storm, playing music, or binge-watching TV.
As the first Australian-born child of South African immigrants, Michael brings a rich cultural perspective and a deep sense of empathy to everything he does.
Michael’s approach is always warm, understanding, and grounded in both up-to-date science and real-life experience because he knows firsthand that the journey is easier when you don’t have to walk it alone.
